Research Involving Human Subjects

All DMin project/dissertations that involve human subjects must apply to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to determine if the project must be reviewed by the Board, and if so, at what level.

Many DMin project/dissertation proposals are exempt from review by the Institutional Review Board (IRB).  But for some projects/dissertations, the IRB will need to review the proposal.  After the DMin Committee has approved your proposal, contact the DMin Project Coach about four months or so before you plan to implement your project. The Project Coach will request certain documents from you at that time. After receiving these documents, the Coach will apply to IRB for you.

The Office of Scholarly Research (OSR) will then inform you if you are exempt from review, or at what level you will need to be reviewed. OSR will also indicate any items you still need to supply with your application.

After your research has been exempted or approved, send a copy of the IRB approval letter to the DMin Project Coach for your file in the Doctor of Ministry office.

Do not implement your project until you are either exempt or have been approved by IRB. Do not begin until the letter of exemption or approval is in hand. This is extremely important!
